Frontside Turn
Once you've got the basic surfing skills and techniques down pat such as the Bottom Turn and Floater, you can move on to maneuvers like the frontside Backside Turn.
So what's the difference between frontside and backside? Basically in surfing terms, frontside simply means facing the wave as you surf. Being able to perform a Frontside Turn, like many surfing maneuvers, is all about knowing when and how to shift your weight from your back foot to your front foot.
Here are the steps you need to take to perform a Frontside Turn:
1. Paddle out and catch a wave. When you feel ready to turn put your weight on your back foot while bending your back knee. You'll notice the nose of the board will raise up a bit.2. Rotate and lean your body towards the direction of the wave; if you surf with your left foot forward, twist to the right. If you surf with your right foot to the front, left foot to the rear, rotate your body left.
3. Balance yourself and transfer your weight back to the center of your surfboard.
Once you know how to shift your weight and get your timing right, you'll be able to perform this maneuver with ease. Then you can move on to the slightly more difficult Backside Turn.

"As for my own surfing, let's just say that when the waves start pushing 10 feet, I get this tremendous urge to make a sandwich."
