Many surfers choose to use custom surfboards. In fact, the majority of the best surfers in the world all use custom boards when competing in surfing competitions. Kelly Slater and Andy Ions are just a few to mention.

But it's not only the pros who prefer using a custom board. Many amateurs and aspiring pros also use custom boards. What's great about custom boards is that they are ultimately a custom board which you decide on. But if you do decide to get a custom board made, there's much more to it than just looking into the design you want.

The important thing is to know what type of board you want. Look at what the professionals use and talk to some of your surfing mates about what they think of custom boards. At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference. There is no such thing as the ideal surf board because everyones needs are different. You also want to choose the right shop/individual to make your custom board.

Ultimately you need to know all of the elements you want in your board, and the finished product should compliment you. Above all, your new custom board should be great to ride and really help improve your skills and surfing performance.
