Buying a secondhand surfboard
Buying a secondhand board is a great idea if you are still deciding on whether or not you want to take on surfing as a serious hobby, or if you're simply on a tight budget. Just beware, there are a few things to check for when buying a secondhand surfboard:
*A board with a few dings is ok, but never buy a board that is heavily dinged or cracked as this will surely cause you problems. Check over any board you intend to buy, very carefully.
*Look carefully at the fin area. Ensure it's not cracked. If a board shows signs of cracking don't buy it.
*If repairs have been done to the board, make sure you look over the repairs carefully-you don't want to buy a board that was patched up incorrectly. You could end up with water getting in.
*If a board is really dirty, make sure you clean it up first before you buy it to make sure the build up of wax isn't covering up something, and you are in fact buying a quality secondhand surfboard.
*Check out the prices between the secondhand and brand new boards you are looking at. If it's not that much extra to go new, then do it.
Whether you're buying a brand new or secondhand surfboard you need to be patient and check over the boards thoroughly before making a decision. It's an important investment, so it's worth taking your time to ensure you purchase the right board for you.
