Snowboarding Dictionary - Terms Definitions and Slang.
In our current Snowboarding Dictionary, there are a number of terms and words used. However, the dictionary is not exhaustive. If there is any term that you know, which is left out of our Snowboarding Dictionary, then feel free to make a suggestion on our Forum.

AASI
American Association of Snowboard Instructors, a way for all snowboard instructors to conduct a safe and fun lesson for everyone.
ACCESSORY MAN
The type of guy who owns every and any piece of snowboarding gear out there and uses it no matter if it's needed or not.
AIRDOG
A snowboard more interested in jumping and conducting aerial tricks.
ALIEN LID AKA ALIEN
The rifer who wears a helmet used for speed-oriented downhill skiing, the kind of helmet that looks like the kind a cyclist wears.
ANCILLARY STOKE
The awesome feeling faces in the crowd have as they watch a boarder pull off an insane manoeuver.
ANDRECHT
When you pull off a rear-handed backside handplant with a front-handed grab.
ANGELO
A trick, turn or jump so perfectly performed there's no fall involved, a title that can only be bestowed upon professions: 'That guy was jumping Angelo-style!'
ARCTIC COUGAR
Hot older lady hunting out for the younger guys on the slopes or in the lodge. Beware of the mighty cougar.
ASSPASS
Being able to shake off the embarrassment and smoothly racing past so fast other riders: 'He just made an asspass!'
AVALANCHE ACTIVATOR
The kind of person who triggers an avalanche wherever they go: 'Look out for the avalanche activator!'
B.C.O.C
Boarders Code of Conduct.
BACKCOUNTRY
Off-piste, areas found outside of the ski hill boundaries.
BACKSIDE 180
An area manoeuvre where the rider rotates at 18 degrees off the jump and leads with a heelside (clockwise for a regular stance, counter-clockwise for goofy).
BACKSIDE BUTTSLIDE
Where the rider rides p beside a rail or box and sits on it. They kick their feet out and slide across on their backside. You can also put your arms behind your head.
BACKSIDE RODEO
Coming off a jump and riding as you turn your back down the hill. you then flip 540 degrees and can land fakie or rotate 720 degrees and land regularly.
BAIL
Chicken out of a trick. Also used to describe a rider crashing and falling.
BANGING
What you say when you land a nice trick.
BARGE
Going for a trick with all you've got: 'Just make the jump!'
BATTLESHIP
the rail in the park that kinks up, flattens out and kinks back down again.
BEAT
To describe something shitty: 'That's real beat if we gotta shape the pipe for the rest of the day!'
BEEF
To describe a wipe-out: 'Man, did I beef that or what?'
BEEF WELLINGTON
To describe something huge or tricky.
BEIGE
To describe something bad: 'That trick was so beige!'
BETTY
A female rider.
BI
To ride a board either goofy or regular style without problems. Also see Switch.
BIFF
Wiping out or making an epic fail: 'God I totally biffed that jump!'
BINGO
Pulling off three 360s in a row.
BIP
A blending of the words 'butt' and 'hip.'
"BITCHIN" CALFDICK
Pressing your high back into your calf and making it difficult to ride.
"BONED OUT"
Emphasising the style in a trick, eg. Someone bones out an indy, meaning they would have to grab hard and create emphasis on the manoeuvre and appearing that his/her legs are extending or stretched as far as they can go.
BIZATCH
That idiot who cuts you off on the slope.
BLASTED A DOOKIE
Watching as someone falls real hard from the safety and comfort of your lift.
BLAZIN' RAISIN
That awesome old bloke gunning it down the mountain.
BLEAH
Achieving insane air on the slope.
BLINDSIDE
Where the rider has made themselves 'blind' to their take-off or landing. They must stretch to look over their shoulder and is a technique that involves great difficulty.
BLINGERS
The kind of people who by all matching equipment whether it helps their performance or not, showing off on the slopes. Otherwise known as a tool./p>
BLUE BIRD
A lovely day: 'Can't wait to hit the slope on such a blue bird day.'
BOARSKII
Blending 'snowboarding' and 'skiing.' We don't know, either…
BOMB
Pointing the nose of your board straight down the hill to go faster: 'He bombed right down that slope!'
BOMB HOLE
A big hole found in the landing of a powder jump because of someone else bailing. Don't do it, you'll just look like a prick if you do.
BONJ
Someone who takes a beating from everyone else on and off the piste.
BONKING
Hitting something really hard with your board.
BONO
(Not that one). To hit a tree while going really fast unintentionally.
BONUS LIFE
Leaving the rest of the competition in the dust.
BOOMPH
The sound you make when you fall into the thick snow.
BOOST
A way to describe catching air of a jump.
BOOTER
The massive kicker that needs to be hit down just a little harder in order to achieve air: 'That thing is huge, what a booter!'
BOTWOKER
The word to describe a newbie rider who is unable to stay upright.
BOWLING PINS
The type of riders who make obstructions of themselves or the kind who all have to stop in a group and block the track for everyone else, sometimes in a flat spot or right at the top of an incline. The rider will need to keep up with enough speed in order to get over it, which can be a struggle. Can also relate to slow riders and skiers you can't pass who are carving the track together.
BP
Boarder Patrol
BRA TREE
Girls who apparently leave their underwear under a tree or lift. Not one that's real familiar to us, but whatever...
BRICK
Someone that hits a kicker with their board, which comes out from underneath while the rider lands on their back. Traditionally an East Coast term.
BRID (PRONOUNCED 'BREATHE')
Describes an unintentional fast descent, eg. where someone might try to stay off the fall line but instead have to 'brid.'
BRO
What you call your mates, of course. Or anyone's name you don't actually know.
BROADWAY
To describe something real cool: 'That trick was real broadway.'
BUNK
To describe something 'wack,' like when a great pipe or run is closed off.
BUNNY HILL
A small hill with a toe rope perfect for beginners to start out boarding on.
BUST
A verb used in the same way as 'to do,' but with more emphasis: 'He's totally busting that slope!'
BUTT SLIDE
Sliding out while you try to backside boardslide down the slope.
BUTTER
A tail press on flatland or a box, eg. 'Did you see that landing, so butter!' Also conjures up the image of warm, buttery toast... Can also mean leaning on the nose of your board (just as you would with a nose manual) and swinging the tail of your board in front.
BUTTER PRETZEL
Refers to a butter frontside or backside before launching in to a 180.
BUTTERY
Describes a snowboard with a good flex that provides well to the butter manoeuvre.
CASE IT
Where you land on the knuckle of the jump before compressing.
CHATTER
Where a board can unnecessarily vibrate, which can happen at higher speeds through turns. Riders try to cut down on the chatter caused in their boards in order to better control it.
CHILLAX
What do you think? Chill out and relax!
CHOPPY CHOPPY
Describes a particularly rough terrain.
CMANIA
Someone obsessed with taking C-boxes out on the slope.
COLORADO SLIDE
When you come to a halt on your board by sliding between someone else's bindings.
CORDUROY
Describes a snowcat grooming a trail that leaves a finely-edged surface. Nice for laying out clean turns on the slopes.
CORK OR CORKED
Freestyle to describe an off-axis rotation on the slope.
CORNICE
Describes a sudden drop-off, which happens often in the backcountry.
COULOIRS
Describes slopes, eg. 'Fly down those couloirs!'
CRAPTASTIC
Pretty obvious.
CRASHTASTIC
Someone who crashes out so bad, it's amazing they're still intact.
CRATER
Describes a crash or fall, eg. 'She slid right off and cratered right into the bank.'
CREW
Those you shred and die by on the slope.
CRISPY
To refer to something cool: 'That trick was so crispy!' See also: Crunchy.
CRUISER RUN
Making a relaxing run on a smooth trail.
CRUNCHY
Like Crispy, describes something awesome.
CRUST-BUSTIN'
Also describes something great: 'That was totally crust-bustin!'
CRUSTY
To refer to something ugly.
CRUTCH
A rider with a ski pole who pushes themselves along on their board.
CURLING FIELD
Refers to the slopes being so icy they look like a curling field (that Canadian sport with the brooms?)
DANK
Used to describe something cool.
DEATH COOKIE
Refers to a big snowball in the middle of a run or slope that's frozen to the ground.
DECK
Describes top of both sides of the halfpipe where riders can stop and drop-in or destroy themselves if they happen to fail to carry proper momentum.
DIRTY POOL
Describes a sick trick or awesome run.
DOG TRAINER
Parents who use a leash on their kid as they learn how to properly use a snowboard.
DOINKLET
A word that describes something that can't be described. Really.
DOLPHIN TURN
When you make an Ollie to change edges in a turn when going down a hill,, for example, making heelside nose lifts of snow, then a heelside tail, then a nose toeside that lands and then tail toeside and so forth.
DOPE
To refer to a sweet or cool trick.
DRAGON
When a ski/snowboard instructor helps to lead children around the slope during a lesson by wearing a red or orange safety vest to warn other riders in the area, therefore resembling a dragon from a distance due to the line of dots on the vest.
DRIFTER
A newbie who has a habit of 'drifting' across the hill accidentally side-by-side and back and forth again.
DROP TROU
To mean 'drop your trousers,' used as an insult to another rider.
DROPPED A LOAD
When you shake the snow off your board while you're riding on a lift and accidentally hit someone below.
DROPPING IN
Referring to the next person who will jump, run or rail.
DRY SLOPE
Any other board or slope that isn't snowy and able to be used all-year round.
DUDE
On the slope, everyone is your dude.
DUST ON CRUST
The thin layer of snow on top of the crusty snow on a slope.
DUTTY
In reference to something that is awesome: 'Dutty jump there, bro.'
DYKE BOARD
A rider using a board too short to support their height.
EAT SNOW
Just like a face plant.
ELGEURIAL (BFM)
An invert where the halfpipe wall is approached fakie, with threar hand planted and with a 360 backside rotation. The rider goes forward as they make the manoeuvre, with the move itself christened after Eddie Elguera.
EPIC
C'mon, how could you not know this one?
'ERIAL
Getting some air and feeling a sense of calm as you do.
ETCHED OUT
Refers to the opening take-off for a rail or jump or any other piece of equipment being cut into and tracks are left by riders and the edges of their boards as they turn before the take-off or at the lip of the jump itself.
FACE PLANT
Landing face first, splat into the snow.
FAKIE
Basically riding backwards on your board.
FAKIE TO ARSE
Where you land on your arse trying to attempt a rail.
FALL LINE
The route that runs right down the hill and the most direct path when you go down a mountain.
FALLING LEAF
A newbie that rides on one edge horizontally and back and forth all the way down a slope.
FANCY PANTS
An embarrassing older male wearing outdated snow pants, apparently...
FLAIL
Someone who rides so out of control, it's awful.
FLAMBOYANT WEEZY
A rider who looks worse for wear after getting into a bender while under the influence of something a little suspect..
FLUKE
Pulling off a trick without trying.
FLUTE
The column of snow stacked on a feature found on the terrain, which can include rocks or a near-vertical slope.
FLY-SWATTER
Refers to when a rider catches an edge and falls forwards, resulting in slapping the ground quickly and gives the rider feeling like they have whiplash.
FRAGGLE
An accident involving two riders ending up with their boards entangled and can result in injury.
FREAK A LEAK
Taking a toilet break.
FRESHIES
Describes the morning powder before anyone else has hit the slope, being the first to ride the pure snow.
FRUIT BOOTER
A term used to refer to a skier: 'Did you see what that fruit booter just did?'
FS
Stands for Frontside (regular: spinning to the left, goofy: spinning to the right.)
FUDGED
Refers to messing up a jump or trick: 'Fudged that jump badly up there, mate.'
GAFFER
To describe a tourist or skier who has no business being on the mountain, gets in the way.
GANGSTAR
Someone so badass on their board it shouldn't be allowed, bringing shame to all other riders in the vicinity.
GAP
Refers to flying over something without actually touching it: 'Totally gaped that hill, there.'
GAPER
Describes and experience skier or rider who tries to pull off runs or tricks that they aren't actually capable to do, yet come out unscathed and leaves others hurt in the process.
GHETTO
Something gross: 'Man, you should have seen the state of my board, totally ghetto.'
GIGANDOIDTRON
Describes a jump or wave that looks like a big, scary monster.
GNAR POW KILL
Slashing up the gnar pow at a rapid pace.
GNARLY
To describe something cool or something of great difficulty.
GNATS
To describe a newbie or any selfish or confused riders on the slope that basically sit right in the middle of the trail or generally get in the way.
GON-GUIPTOO
To describe a rider who's gone totally crazy, either in a positive or negative way, especially after they have pulled off a hard manoeuvre or when another rider cracks it and lashes out at everyone else.
GOOFY
Riding right-footed in front rather than the left (normally the usual stance you ride with on a board).
GROMMET (GROM)
What you call a smaller and younger rider on the slope, especially those who are very much into the sport.
GROOMER
What can you call the piste, ie. 'cruising the groomers.'
HAIF
Stands for High Altitude Flatulence, also known as the dreaded Mountain Butt. Unfortunate condition that occurs when a rider comes from sea level up to a higher elevation.
HANDSOME PANTS
A rider wearing spiffy snowpants stomping it all around the slopes.
HANDY DANDY
Someone (usual an older skier) who carves all over the slope left and right cutting everyone else off.
HEADER
Taking a headfirst dive: 'Look at the header she took with that flip!'
HEEL TO HEELS
When a rider is hopping backside 18s between the transition of turns. The rider uses nothing but the heelside edge of their before and is a more difficult manoeuvre than toe to toes dies to the backside rotation of the move.
HEELSIDE EDGE
Edge of the board closest to the rider's heels.
HELLA
To mean awesome or 'really' awesome.
HERB
An abbreviation of 'herbert' that refers to a bad skier or rider, especially those who cut boarder up and are unable to pull of parallel turns.
HIPPIE
Apparently this refers to a rider boarding shirtless with a peace sign necklace.
HIT
A park feature: 'There has to be at least 16 hits in the park,' or a trick performed off a park feature, eg. to pull off a manoeuver off a rail.
HOEDAD
The kind of person you see sitting in the car park of the resort with their boards, but never actually goes out to do any riding..
HOMBRE
A Spanish term for dude or friend or homie.
HOT DOG
Hot girl that totally tears it up and down the slopes.
HOWLER
A terribly windy day so bad there's a chance the lifts could be shut down: 'Man, what a howler up in here!' Can also relate to when a rider bombs a run and howls at the slowpokes who amble past.
HUCKER
A rider who throws themself through the air and fails to land on their feet.
HUCKFEST
When a group of boarders ride hard and wild.
HUGE
To describe a trick or jump or anything else that is awesomely huge or something that is just plain insane.
ICEPHALT
A run that is particularly icy and would be better off riding on skates (or end up with a concussion should you catch an edge)
INVERTED
Pulling a jump or trick upside down, ie. pulling off an inverted method.
JAM
Short for jampiece, meaning is the same: 'That trick was the jam!'
JAMES BROWN
A trick performed with the heel side edge of your board as you cross the box or rail (the opposite of performing a Michael Jackson).
JAMPIECE
To describe something awesome: 'That run was the jampiece!'
JAPAN
Where the rider's front hand grabs the toe edge of the board, tuck their front knee in and pull the board up while their back is arched.
JEANER
Riders who dare to ski or ride in jeans.
JELLYBEANING
Going down a run when you're now allowed to and having to run back up to avoid being caught by security and risk getting kicked off the mountain: 'Great, we have to jellybean it back up there now!'
JIB
Riding on something else besides snow, like rubbish bins, rails or logs
JIMMY LEG
A rider from the 'Dirty South' riding with a stiff front leg and kicks the tail with their back foot (jimmying).
JOEY
A newbie rider who has a gap between their goggles and helmet. See Also, Gaper.
JOLLYOLLIE
Crashing out while trying to attempt an Ollie, suffering the indignity of everyone mocking you mercilessly afterwards.
KARAHE
Being unable to tolerate someone or something.
KICKER
Building your own jump.
KICKIN CHICKEN
Catching large air either off of a jump or in a pipe and kicking your legs back and forth to keep stable.
KILLA
A homicidal maniac who boards with a knife in one hand.
KINK
When riding halfpipes or other jumps, one may experience difficult surfaces. These kinks cause problems when you ride over them.
KOOKOO
Pulling off a crazy move: 'Man, that move was kookoo!'
KRUNKED
Getting hurt on the slope and unable to move.
LATE
Incorporating something else into a trick before you've finished doing it.
LAWN CHAIR AIR
Jumping very high before falling and collapsing (just like a lawn chair).
LAYOUT
Landing flat on your back.
LEAF
Swaying like a leaf from side to side down the slope.
LEGIT
To call something cool or awesome: 'That trick was legit!'
LEONARD
That person who's having a rough day and completely stacking on their board.
LIMP
To fake an injury.
LINE
The path a rider takes that normally located in the backcountry or off the lay out of the reg. slope.
LIP
To describe the top of a jump and how steep it is.
LIPLAYER
The coward who bails at the lip of a jump
LIP-MOLE
A person who sits behind the lip of a large jump so they can't be seen until you're in the air.
LOCKDOWN
Referring to when a rider will obviously land a trick without fail.
LOTTOEY
The kind of rider with all kinds of expensive equipment.
LOUNGING POSER
The kind of guy or girl who just sits around at the resort with actually doing any riding.
LUMP
A skill hill that has been remodelled from a landfill.
MANNY
Short for manual.
MANUAL
When a rider pressures the nose or tail of the board so the other end is raised in the air.
MAX AIR PLUMMET
Getting maximum air off a jump, but flying horizontally in the air as you forget to land and make a huge face plant on the ground.
MEAT TORPEDO
A young kid on skis with no regard for safety.
MILAGS OR MILAGRO
A word to describe something that's really cool or awesome.
MISTYFLIP
A Frontflip 180
MOB
When a rider goes fast down a hill or pull off a trick off a jump, or just decide to leave.
MOFO
You ski-instructor.
MOGULS
The bumps on a hill due to snow being pushed down the mountainside.
MONKEY BRAINS
Nickname for a diner.
MONKEY TRAIL
Off-piste trail that leads off into the woods.
MUNTJAC
A mysterious rider unknown to others on the slope.
MUPPET
Playful insult to another rider.
MYSTERY DATE
When you use your back arm to balance out on a board.
NECTAR (NEC-TER)
To call a trick or jump sweet.
NEWBIE
A new rider.
NO JOY
Pilot slang that translates to: not possible/ no good/ why bother.
NOLLIE
Launching the board up in the air like an Ollie manuover, but rather lading the nose of the board in order to pop it.
NOOB
A new rider. Can also be used as an insult: 'Look at the noob out there!'
NOSE MANUAL
Riding with your board's tail off the ground.
NUCKLE
The point on a jump before you land.
NUKE
Bombing a hill.
OL' POPS
Older people found on the slopes.
OLLIE
A move where you lift the nose and tail of your board at the same time.
ONE-FOOTY
A rider riding with one foot in the bindings of their board.
OSCAR
A poser who has all the gear and the nice board, but epically fail at boarding. Pass off the act so well of looking like a rider, they should get an Oscar for their performance.
PACK
To describe a crash or fall.
PANTBINDER
Careless rider who is selfish on the slopes despite anyone else.
PARGNAR
Another word for gnarly.
PENGUIN SLIDES
Where you lie face down on a green or blue slope 9red or black for the more advanced) and press your stomach into the snow. Raise your board off the ground, bend your knees and slide down as fast as you're able, looking like a penguin, of course.
PERPENDICULARITY
Where the rider maintains a stance perpendicular to the snow surface like an upside down 'T' The rider is able to keep balanced and control of your board.
PEW PEW
That thin layer of pow that you find on top of compacted snow on the slope.
PHAT
To describe something huge, like 'phat air' or an awesome trick.
PIPE
Abbreviated use of halfpipe.
PISTE (PRONOUNCED PEEST)
Originally European word for a trail, groomed run or slope. French for 'trail' or 'track.'
PLANK
Slang for snowboard.
POACH
Meaning that the powder field is out of bounds if the halfpipe is closed, but ride it anyway.
POACH
Riding a board in a ski-only area or resort and dodge security. Gets its name from Jake Burton, who requested video evidence of riders cruising around Mad River Glen, Deer Valley, Alta Ski and Taos Ski Valley, offering $5000 for the video of a rider being poached and able to win $20,ooo for their efforts.
POETRY
Something that means a combination of strange slang, Swiffers and those who partake in some more suspicious herb substances..
POO ICE
Hard snow that could be filthy-looking or just plain dirty. Not pleasant.
POP
Getting the push off the lip of a pipe or jump ex. "i didnt get the pop i needed to pull that trick"
POP TART
Falling to one side and ended up with the front or back of your body covered in snow, just like a frosted pop tart.
POSEUR
Trying to pull off the moves and pretend to be a true rider when you're obviously not.
POTE
French word translating to 'friend' or 'mate.'
POW
Abbreviation for powder.
POW POW
Fresh powder.
POWDER PUFF
That rider who loves riding the pow pow.
PWNED
1337 internet lingo meaning to completely destroy the competition or pulling off an epic trick when no one else can. Total pwnage ensues.
POW-PHOBIA
Someone who can't even bear to hit the snow.
PRESS
Applying pressure to a particular part of the board (either the nose or the tail) in order to raise it up.
PRICKS WITH STICKS
An insult against a dickish rider or a bunch of them altogether.
PULLIN A PLAX
A rider who boards down the slope without any problems until he crashes out of nowhere.
PUNCH
Crashing out horribly.
QP
Abbreviation for quarter pipe.
RABBIT
Term for an old man or woman out on the slopes.
RACHETS
The name given to a traditional style of bindings, which were strapped in.
RAD!
Sick! Awesome! Gnarly! Cool!
RAGDOLL
When bailing occurs mostly at high speeds, where it will catch and edge (usually the heel) and sends them out of control flailing about as they run down the slope.
RAPTOR
When a riders boards with their arms out.
RHINO FUCK
The other name given to a knuckle.
RIDIN HIGH
Apparently when someone partakes in a suspicious herb substance while riding the chair lift.
RINSE
Describes a boarding technique when done well: 'You totally rinsed that jump!'
RIP
When you ride the slopes well, ripping it up.
RIPPIN FLAKE
As christened by boarder Any McPherson, it pretty much describes all kinds of snowboarding, ie. ripping flake on holiday.
ROCHAMBEAU
Used when lining up during a lesson to determine who is teaching instead of riding the 'knee deep freshies.'
ROCKY
That rider who loves ollying and bonking rocks a little too much on the slope.
RODEO
Backflip 540
ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOWS
When a rider is caught off-balance and try to rotate their arms to recover on the slope as they go down.
RUBE GOLDBERG
A term given when describing a whole collection of tricks in one.
SALAMI SANDWICH
Overpriced food found at the ski resport.
SAUCE
When a rider slides on a rail.
SCHRIFF
Carving out on the slope.
SCHWANK
To call something cool or awesome.
SCOPE
Checking something out.
SCORCH MUFFINS
Ended a trick badly, usually by falling on your arse.
SCORPION
When a rider face plants so hard your legs and board hit the back of your head, looking like a scorpion's tail.
SCREWED
When you board has a screw is higher than the lexion top sheet on a jib feature, which can result in a broken body and edge.
SEAL BOARDING
When a rider lies on their belly on a board and holds it up like a spoiler and ride down the slope, which works best on smoother terrains.
SESSION
The interval in which a rider boards.
SHACK
That lodge on a pretty ghetto hill
SHACK BOOTER
A jump consisting of a triangular prism of snow.
SHARKING TORPEDO
Crashing out when you know it's all going to go wrong and just letting yourself fall over.
SHAVE IT
Shaving the fresh powder off a slope, mountain or the top of a cornice.
SHITTER
Wiping out badly on the slope.
SHLOBY
The bigger rider who thinks they can achieve big air but can barely get a couple of inches off the ground.
SHMOB
Controlling your board recklessly.
SH'MON
Yes, kinda like MJ used to say, but in this case meaning to go or more or come back or forth, or if you don't know what something is called or you cannot think of what it is at the time.
SHRALP
Riding really aggressively.
SHRED
Tearing up the snow.
SHRED HEAD
A rider really good at riding, but is always up against those who shred worse than him.
SHRED SLED
Slang term for snowboard.
SHRED THE GNAR
Shredding something, like a hard run.
SHREDDER
A great rider.
SHRIPPING
Shredding/ripping
SHUT DOWN
Either stomping out a mad trick or crashing out epically.
SICILIAN
Term used in conjunction with epic, daring, grand, fearless and so on.
SICK
Something good.
SICK NASTY
Totally intense.
SKATING
Moving with you front foot strapped into the board and pushing with the other, then putting it on the stomp pad and taking off.
SKETCHING
Riding along precariously and almost falling.
SKETCHY
Landing a small trick, but messing up the landing without falling.
SLAY

What you can call a snowboard. Also used when you make a good landing on your board.

The strange-looking things skier ski with that are difficult to carry around.
STOKED
To mean psyched or excited.
STOMP
When you make a great landing.
STRAIGHT AIR
The ultimate in achieving aerial manoeuvres on a board. Achieve instant legendary status.
STUMPY
Someone who really loves ollying or bonking stumps.
STUNTED
When you embarrassingly fall while you get off the lift and stop while you're riding up it.
SUATB!

SUITCASE
Where you use your leading hand to grab the toe side of the board from underneath while your forearm is against the bottom base of your board.
SUITCASE GRAB
Throwing your leading arm behind you and grabbing the toe side edge of the board from underneath, while the bottom of your forearm is against the base of your board.
SUN BAKER
Someone who chills on a break on the side of a slope or hill.
SWAG
Scoring free gear or equipment.
SWIFFER
Pulling two turn in opposite directions, forming the Swiffer 'S.'
SWITCH
Riding with the tail of your board in front, like a fakie.
SWOOF (SWOOFER)
A newbie who has no idea how to carve and just end up bombing out on the slope.
TABLETOP
Consists of a smaller jump, then a larger tranny jump, followed by then landing.
TAIL SLIDE
Sliding on a box or other type of surface only on the tail of your board.
TECH
When a rider hits the rails with hard styles lie a tweaked-out nose press or style EX.
TEPEE AKA MOOMOO
Normally a younger rider who wears t-shirts and hoodies way too big for them that end up looking like a tepee or moomoo.
TENDER VITTLES
Young riders who prefer the Arctic Cougars in the resort.
THE WETMORE
That rider too big and goofy for their board.
TIGHT
Something awesome or cool.
TITS
When something is good: 'That jump is tits!'
TOE TO TOE TURN/CARVES
When a rider hops 180s between the transition of turns and use the toeside edge of the board to do so.
TOESIDE TURN
When a rider lifts the front heel and presses the toe down, then moves their knee over foot (followed by back and shoulders) and eventually press all their toes down.
TOGNAR
Stands for totally gnarly.
TOOTLOOP
Schwank recovery from a dook blast.
TORPEDO
A board travelling at an insane pace.
TRAIN PACK
A crazy bunch of skiers that may show elements of cool, but not quite.
TRANNY
The sloped part of a landing that helps you not end up in the flats, basically a ditch or empty space.
TREE
The kid blocking the middle of the trail or jump. If it's a group of friends in the way, it's known as a forest.
TRICK
Basically all the awesome stuff a rider can do with their board.
TRICKY
That kid pulling off the sweet manoeuvres: 'Tricky bastard.'
TRIP
Something wicked or cool.
TRIPPY
To call something cool or crazy.
TUCK
The term given to low wind resistance in the crouch position to help a rider go faster.
TWEAKED
Explains the focus given on the style in a trick, when something 'tweaks out' a method, either grabbing hard and creating emphasis on the manouever and make their joints seem bent or injures. Ouch.
TWO-PLANKER
What is known as a skier.
WACK
To describe something shitty: 'That jump was wack!'
WARBLE
A lump of snow which a rider ollies off and spins on top off before riding on.
WARCKDARD
To describe something weird.
WARPED
A bumpy or rough terrain that's difficult to shred or ride on.
WASTED
When a rider is sprayed with snow by another nearby rider.
WAY OF LIFE
To describe the lifestyle, how most riders see snowboarding and the life in general surrounding the sport.
WEST-BURN
To totally wipe out on the slope.
WET RIDE
The kind of… 'interesting' people who think it's a good idea to take a piss off the side of a chair lift. Not cool, guys.
WETCAT
Snowboarding's Todd Richard's trademark pipe move involving an inverted aerial with a 540 degree rotational flip, which is then added with a flat, spinning 360 degree rotation, completing a rotation of 900 degrees altogether.
WICKED
Something cool, awesome, gnarly, sick, whatever you want it to mean.
WILDERBEAST
A rider who can't actually board and takes up space on the slope.
WIMP
Basically a big wuss on the slope.
WISH BONE
When a rider slams a board so hard doing something awesome, they snap their board.
WONKED
Someone who is stoked or just plain stoned.
YA SMELL ME?
Translates to: 'You understand me, bro?'
YARD SALE
A rider bailing so hard on the slope their hat/goggle/whatever else flies off in the process.
YUPPIES
City folk who think they can ride (but not very well).
